From lighting measurements to expert advice

With the exponential growth in the number of lamps and other light sources on the market, it can be difficult to distinguish good products from bad ones. Laborelec’s accredited and manufacturer-independent Lighting Department conducts tests and measurements on all light sources for industrial, tertiary, and public lighting applications. We also carry out audits, provide expert advice, and provide technical specifications.

Testing all types of lighting equipment

Laborelec is ISO 17025 accredited to test all types of lighting equipment:

• Lamps, including LEDs
• Residential, industrial, and street lighting luminaires
• Emergency lighting
• Reflective and transparent materials

Our experts check whether these devices comply with the numerous standards for private and public sector specifications, such as IES-LM79, Ecodesign N°244/2009, EN 13032, IEC 62722-2-1, and IEC 62717.

Measuring lighting performance, durability, and safety

Our Lighting laboratory is equipped to measure a wide variety of parameters, including:

• Performance: luminous flux, luminous intensity distribution (IES, LDT, and CIB files), colour temperature, colour rendering index, energy efficiency.
• Durability: lifetime and lumen depreciation.
• Safety: photobiological safety, according to IEC 62471, and UV measurements.

Lighting consultancy and audits

Our experts are able to investigate various aspects related to lighting equipment: their rational energy use, the total cost of ownership, and other factors such as maintenance, safety, comfort, aesthetics, and light pollution.

• Consultancy: We can provide customers with technical specifications for the lighting equipment (lamps, luminaires, auxiliaries, etc.) that best fit their specific contexts.
• Audits: We conduct lighting audits of tertiary and industrial buildings and provide reports that include relighting plans and maintenance advice. These audits provide guidelines to meet the BREEAM building certification requirements.

Calibrating lighting measuring equipment

Laborelec is accredited to calibrate measuring equipment for lighting applications:

• Lux meters
• UV meters
• Luminance meters

Customized lighting training

Laborelec offers a customized training course on lighting. The course’s content is adapted to suit each customer’s needs (indoor or street lighting, beginner’s or advanced course). It provides methods for the pre-sizing or assessment of an efficient lighting installation and enables the quantification of potential energy savings from new lighting technologies (LED, intelligent lighting, etc.).
