Oil analysis laboratory
Condition assessment of transformers and rotating machinery
Laborelec’s oil analysis laboratory investigates unused and in-service transformer insulating oil as well as lubricating oil. These analyses enable the assessment of the condition of both transformers and rotating machinery. Our experts can then define the most appropriate maintenance and asset management recommendations.
- Why are oil analyses so important?
- Wide variety of oil analyses - Analyses d'huile (french) - Olieanalyses (dutch)
- Sampling: The cornerstone of an accurate oil analysis
Rotating machinery: reducing wear and contamination
Laborelec also provides condition monitoring services for rotating machines. Trending the analyses of the lubricating oils to get an accurate view of both the condition of the oil and the machinery.
- Rotating machinery: Assessing wear and oil contamination
- Oil quality assessment: Checking the functionalities of oils for rotating machinery
Transformers: preventing failures
Condition monitoring for transformers
A regular assessment of the condition of oil-filled transformers based upon in-depth analysis of insulating oil samples.
- Oil quality assessment: Checking the functionalities of transformer oils
- Paper degradation: Assessing remaining transformer lifetime
- PCB analysis: Meeting legal environmental requirements
- Internal transformer faults: Dissolved gasses analysis (DGA)
Online monitoring
Remote follow-up of the behaviour of critical transformers based on continuous monitoring of data automatically received from onsite equipment.
Acceptance tests for unused transformer oils
A set of very specific oil analyses to assess the long-term quality of unused insulating oil and its conformity to relevant IEC or ASTM standards.
- Oxidation stability: A key acceptance test for unused insulating oils and in-service lubricant oils
- Acceptance tests: Evaluating unused insulating oils
Fleet screening
A priority ranking for maintenance and replacement actions for a transformer fleet based upon our interpretation of existing oil and transformer data.
Dismantling transformers
A post-mortem investigation of the active part of transformers to gain more insight into the ageing behaviour of similar transformers.
Training
Specific training courses (on-site or at Laborelec) to help customers increase their knowledge of important aspects of oil analyses, including sampling techniques, analytical techniques, and interpretation of data.
Research and development (R&D)
Our investment in research enables us to retain our position at the forefront of oil analyses: new analysis methods, improved interpretation schemes, alternative oils, alternative ageing markers, et cetera.
Participation in international scientific and standardization committees
Laborelec oil experts participate actively in several international scientific and standardization committees, including IEC, CIGRE, and ASTM.
