Non-Destructive Testing
Effective condition assessment of production components
Whether it concerns overhauls, new plant constructions, maintenance outages, or component replacements, inspections must be carried out quickly and efficiently. Laborelec offers power plants and industry a unique service that includes a broad range of conventional and advanced non-destructive testing techniques focused on minimizing maintenance costs and production downtime.
Selecting the best non-destructive inspection technique for each situation
Before starting the investigation, Laborelec can select the most appropriate non-destructive testing technique with the help of simulation software. Our experts use the CIVA software—developed by the CEA (Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique)—to accurately model a component, taking into account its material characteristics and geometry. The tool enables us to simulate any type of defect, based on historical data or visual findings. After conducting parametric studies, our experts select the best NDT equipment for inspecting the given component.
Mastering and developing a vast array of non-destructive testing techniques
The Laborelec experts have mastered a vast array of non-destructive testing (NDT) services:
- Standard NDT: Ultrasound (UT), Eddy current (ET), Magnetic (MT), Visual (VT), Penetrant (PT), and Positive Material Identification (PMI) Testing
- Advanced NDT: Automated Ultrasound, Phased Array (PA), Time Of Flight Diffraction (TOFD), Eddy current tube testing in steam generators, condensers, or heat exchangers, Frequency Scanning Eddy Current (FSECT), and Alternating Current - Potential Drop (AC-PD) Testing
Laborelec has the tools, knowledge, and experience to perform these inspections, and correctly interpret the results. Based on these results, our experts provide advice on the root cause of malfunctioning equipment and assess their lifetime expectancy. Our experts also stay updated on the latest international developments in inspection methods and novel, promising techniques.
Neutral follow-up of third-party condition assessment
In cases where the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or a third-party contractor conducts the inspection, Laborelec offers unbiased technical support. Our experts monitor the manufacturer or contractor's investigation to ensure that it is performed according to the appropriate procedures and with the customer’s best interests in mind.
